It was a cold crisp New York afternoon as Sarah and I made our way from the H&M store toward Central Park. (for guys reading this H&M is a shopping heaven for women). As we walked, the late afternoon sun, hidden by the cloud cover was starting to set, and the brilliant lights of midtown Manhattan New York started to come to life. We took in the city decorated for the holiday season …Sarah was excited as at the plan to go ice-skating drew closer. I embedded ice-skating in her head all day in order to get her back to central park. We neared the south-east corner of the park I felt my heart beating against box in my breast pocket of my coat. We passed the horse and carriages, and down the path towards the skating rink, I was excited as I started to feel it would be the perfect time. I was confident as I had the blessing of my family and hers…yet anxious as well. Trying not to show it to Sarah…as after 3+ year she knows me well enough to know if something is up…I said let’s take a right and head down to the bridge that crosses over the pond. She asked “why,” and exclaimed “we did that yesterday” …I quickly replied I wanted a picture with the lights of the city reflecting off the beautiful pond as dusk was nearing. When we got to the bridge, I took a picture of the scene and then one of Sarah in it…she then said “ok ok lets go ice-skating…I said lets hang here for a minute as we will not be here again for some time and let’s just take in the moment. Anxiously I waited for what seemed to be the only other couple in the 800+ acre park, take their last of 5 photos from the same small bridge in which we stood…thinking “geez get off my bridge trying to make a marriage proposal here”….they finally left and I looked at Sarah and let her know how I truly felt about her and how I wanted to build a family and life with her, and that I wanted to marry her…she was very surprised and ask inquisitively, “you don’t have a ring do you?” , I replied “I do have one” and reached into my pocket to pull out the ring…she gasped and said “shut up” grabbing onto me as not to fall over…we laughed as I dropped to one knee to present the ring to here and properly ask for her hand in marriage…
….and then she said “Yes”…..

After walking what seemed like all of New York City, Kurt and I went back to our hotel room to get ready to go ice skating. It was a chilly day so I was hoping we could stay in and warm up, but Kurt had been talking about ice skating all day.
I had thought maybe Kurt would propose on our Thanksgiving trip to NYC, but after many jokes before we left WA that people expected him to pop the question, I pretty much but the possibility out of my head.
Also, for those that know Kurt, his motto is usually "better safe than sorry!" As soon as we got to the hotel, Kurt put all of our valuables into our room safe. He also gave me the code and free reign to enter whenever I liked. If he had a ring, that is where it would be and it would have been under lock and key.
As soon as we got to Central Park, (we had to make a few stops to shop along the way) we stood at the pond near the main entrance. We took several pictures and enjoyed the site of Central Park at dusk with the amazing sky line.
Kurt then started talking about our relationship and our future together. If I wasn't so convinced he wasn't going to propose, I might have thought that what was happening.
Right when I least expected it, he did just that. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I yelled "shut up" and grabbed onto him for dear life! Then I immediately said YES!
I think at that moment, we felt closer than ever before. We were both so excited and anxious and of course, in love. It was a amazing once in a lifetime feeling.
We then took a carriage ride around the park and then settled in for a drink at Mickey Mantle’s, for the baseball lover in Kurt.
We had a great champagne dinner with friends that evening and we have been so excited since!
